Croydon Tramlink

First operates the tram service in and around Croydon. The operating company, First Tram Operations Ltd runs the service under contract to Tramtrack Croydon Ltd (TCL). TCL won the design, build, operate and maintain Croydon Tramlink concession, awarded by Transport for London in 1996.

First Tram Operations provides the staff, operational control and other aspects of Tramlink operations.

Tramtrack Croydon has responsibility for Tramlink’s infrastructure, including the track and tram stops.

London Trams (part of Transport for London) oversees the operation of the Tramlink concession.

Trams began running in May 2000 and the service was an instant success. There are 22 trams running on the system (out of a fleet of 24) and the depot is at Therapia Lane, Croydon. The 3 routes are centred on Croydon, running out to Wimbledon, Beckenham and New Addington.
