To reduce the staff injury rateThe staff injury rate has reduced by 22%.
To reduce the lost time injury rateThe lost time injury rate has reduced by 31%.
To reduce the passenger injury rateThe passenger injury rate has reduced by 16%.
To reduce the vehicle collision rateThe vehicle collision rate has reduced by 12%.
To reduce the number of Signals Passed at Danger (SPAD)The SPAD rate has increased due to an increase in low severity SPADs. We are working hard to reverse this trend.
To enhance our strategic and operational approach to securityWe have established a security policy and associated Security Strategy which sets out the main security risks to the business and how these will be managed.
To improve security through increased employee awareness and contributionA programme of awareness-raising has been implemented and includes briefings, posters and security tours.

CUSTOMER AND COMMUNITY

To continue to improve the punctuality and reliability of our services in the UKThe overall punctuality and reliability of our services continues to improve.
To meet our contract performance standards in North AmericaWe achieved all our contract performance targets apart from preventative maintenance. These targets were set at a more challenging level this year and we continue to work closely with our customers to achieve them.
To improve our performance in the National Passenger Surveys in the UK Rail divisionWith the exception of First Great Western, all our train operating companies improved their performance in the Autumn 2006 National Passenger Survey.
To reduce customer complaintsWhere we have comparable data customer complaints in the UK Rail division have reduced.
To continue to increase community volunteering in the UK Bus and UK Rail divisionsEmployee volunteering hours have more than doubled this year from just over 3,000 to 6,600.

OUR PEOPLE
TARGETPERFORMANCE
To improve the driver retention rate in UK Bus and North AmericaIn the UK Bus Division the driver turnover rate is down by 3%, in First Student it is down by 3.5%. In First Transit driver turnover continues to rise and we have recruited two specialist recruitment managers who will work to reverse this trend.
To increase access to workplace learning opportunities in UK Bus and UK RailWe have opened an additional four learning centres this year.
To further develop the skills of our people through effective training and development and increased learning opportunitiesOur learning and development programmes across the business continue to develop. The UK Bus division has developed a new graduate training programme with the Open University. Our UK Rail division has established a leadership development programme. In North America we continue to develop our leadership development programmes and increase the number of employees with ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) qualifications.
To improve employee satisfaction ratings where surveys take placeWhere we have undertaken more than one survey, satisfaction has increased across a number of areas although there remain issues to address. These are being tackled via individual operating companies' human resource strategies.
To develop consistent recruitment and development processes for the UK Rail divisionLast year we streamlined relationships with our recruitment suppliers to improve the consistency in our approach to recruitment processes.

ENVIRONMENT
TARGETPERFORMANCE
To achieve ISO14001 accreditation for one further bus company and one further rail companyGB Railfreight and our bus operations in Manchester achieved certification this year.
To reduce the volume of interceptor waste by 5% in the UK Bus divisionThe volume of interceptor waste in the UK Bus division has reduced by 17%.
To collate baseline data on utilities usage at major stationsWe now have baseline utility data for all major stations in First ScotRail, First TransPennine Express and First Capital Connect.
To reduce gas usage for existing rail depots by 5% This target was not achieved due to expansion of the overall depot operations.
To reduce by 50% the volume of oil contaminated absorbent disposed to landfill in North AmericaThe volume of contaminated absorbent disposed to landfill has reduced by 12%.
To reduce energy usage at properties owned by North AmericaThis target has not been achieved and we are working to improve the reliability of our energy usage data in North America.
